          Ramadan is just around the corner!!!


Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful. 
Surah 2:185

So here we are 9 days away from the Holy month of Ramadan, the month in which the first revelations of the Holy Quran, the principal scripture of the Islamic faith, were revealed to our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw). 

"Fasting is a completely natural healing therapy that has been used for thousands of years to aid, treat, and even cure many common maladies. It creates the same healing effects today.
And while modern medicine so often attempts to alleviate outer symptoms of a health condition, fasting affects healing from the inside out, getting to the actual source of the condition, helping to burn inferior cells and build new healthier cells and tissues.
Our bodies are capable of instigating their own perfect healing if we allow them the opportunity. Fasting is such an opportunity."
What can fasting do for you?

So what does fasting really mean? Is it just about the lack of food and drink passing my lips? Or is it actually more about the "spirit" of the fast?

Yes we abstain from food and drink (aaah my latte addiction!!!! LOL) from dawn to dusk, but if we are abstaining physically without matching this with a deepening of our eemaan and doing everything we can to please Allah (swt) then whats the point? 

If we are fasting physically but not doing our utmost to be; prayerful, studious, charitable, patient, kind, long suffering, compassionate, careful with our words and actions, and all those things we know make Islam so beautiful, then we are failing ourselves and our beautiful Deen. 


Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)”

Sahih Bukhari :: Book# 31 :: Hadith# 128

May Allah (swt) bless us to fast with external abstention that is matched and indeed surpassed by our sincere internal desire to increase in Taqwa and get closer to Him.
